Originality and Authenticity in HCM

ABSTRACT

Despite having large volumes of text written on Indian classical music, originality and authenticity that are the two basic indicators for standardizing the system are never clearly defined. A diachronic vision of the notion of authenticity is therefore required despite that it is necessarily defined only synchronically. In addition to that, here in this study we want to develop a method for understanding these two key concepts of music, and for that matter of any art, by means of analyzing the available documents and deconstructing their provenance. The basic methodology is drawn on the concepts of Semiotics and in addition to that, we might have to opt in for some technological aids for sample studies.
